It started in the beginning of the 20th century, when we were making large wooden pliers for the tanning industry, which was quite developed in our area. Hence the name of our company: Fabbrica Pinze Schio, Schio Pliers Factory, registered in 1941. During the 60s, other than wood, we started using the first thermoplastic materials and injection molding machines, and we begun introducing industrial automation, often developed by ourselves. The ZEMA brand was established during the 70s as the acronym of the company owners’ initials. In the year 2000, we started our research towards sustainability and were among the first to test biopolymers and post-consumer recycled plastics. After five years of testing, in 2005 we were finally able to launch the ECOZEMA brand, a range of biodegradable and compostable foodservice ware. Our cutlery was the first in the world to obtain OK-compost certification.
