Since our founding in 2001, Yamanokujira has been driven by a vision to breathe new life into the rich forest resources of Kochi. At Yamanokujira, we don't just make toys; we manage a critical resource loop. Our mission is to restore the health of Kochi’s deep forests by turning "unutilized timber"—wood often left to rot—into high-value educational tools. We utilize thinned wood and small-diameter timber that the traditional lumber industry ignores. This active consumption helps prevent forest degradation and landslides. Our workshop empowers the local community, including women and elderly artisans, preserving traditional woodworking skills within a modern, sustainable business model.
