From Traceability to Comparable Results

Traceability in agricultural supply chains has evolved from niche concern to operational baseline over the past decade. WBCSD's analysis suggests the field now faces a maturity challenge: knowing where commodities originate matters less if organisations cannot compare results across supply chains, geographies, or time periods.

The shift reflects a hard truth. Traceability alone doesn't drive behaviour change or risk mitigation. A company tracking cocoa from field to warehouse still lacks leverage to compare its supplier's deforestation rate against competitors, or to measure whether its own interventions actually reduced emissions or water stress year-on-year.
